Virginia C. ‘Ginny’ Haas, 99, of Bainbridge, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Oct. 11, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on May 15, 1925, in Humboldt, Ohio, Ginny was the daughter of Marjorie and Frank Chambliss. She attended Buckskin School through her sophomore year before moving to Bainbridge in 1940. Ginny graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1942.
On January 24, 1944, Ginny eloped with Robert ‘Bob’ Haas to Greenup, Kentucky, and the two began a lifelong adventure together. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Biloxi, Mississippi, while Bob served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. After the war, they returned to Bainbridge, where they built a life and home together until Bob’s passing on September 12, 2000.
In 1961, once all her boys were in school, Ginny earned her cosmetology license and opened Ginny’s Beauty Shop in the family’s garage. She loved serving her community and supported her family through her work for many years until her retirement. Even after retiring, she continued to offer her hairdressing skills to family members, which they cherished.
Ginny was known for her creativity and resourcefulness. She was a gifted seamstress, sewing beautiful dresses for her granddaughters’ special occasions. A devoted gardener, she was a proud member of the Bainbridge Garden Club for many years. Her passion for painting allowed her to capture meaningful moments from her life, leaving behind treasured artworks for her family.
Her tenacity and independent spirit were legendary among those who knew her. Ginny took great pride in proving that she could accomplish things that others said she couldn’t (or shouldn’t!). Her family will fondly remember her generosity, humor and stubbornness.
In addition to her beloved husband, Ginny was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Charles; sister, Jean Willett; sons, Michael Haas and Greg Haas; daughter-in-law, Diane Haas; and grandson-in-law, Jeff Ulrich.
Ginny is survived by her son, Patrick (Pam) Haas; daughter-in-law, Stacia (Greg) Haas; grandchildren Angela Ulrich, Sue (Erich) Mueller, Allison Haas (Justin Jonas), Doug (Tara) Haas, Elizabeth (Todd) Walker, Sarah Haas, and Alex (Rachael) Haas; and great-grandchildren Lily, Wolfgang, Alice, Zoe, Simone, Jackson, Adelyn, Halle, Sadie, Kalliopi, and Callum.
Ginny also had many wonderful friends, including her Bridge Club ladies, who added much joy and laughter to her life over the years.
Per Ginny’s wishes, no formal services will be held. The Smith-Moore-Ebright Funeral Home of Bainbridge is serving the family. Memorial donations in Ginny’s name may be made to the Bainbridge United Methodist Church PO Box 528, Bainbridge Ohio 45612.
