Sherrel D. Battles

Sherrel D. Battles, 82, of Chillicothe, died on Friday, June 15, 2018, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Chillicothe following a lingering illness. He was born on March 7, 1936 in McAlester, OK, the son of the late Oran and Bertha Lovell Battles. He married the former Hazel I. Messer and she preceded him in death on February 12, 2015

He is survived by two sons; Kevin Battles of Chillicothe and Charles Battles of Frankfort, one grandson; Lucas Battles. He was preceded in death by his good friend, Ray Corey.

Sherrel served in the US Army, Quartermasters Corps where he obtained the rank of Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Nursing Assistant from the Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Sherrel was a big sports fan which began in high school where he lettered in several different sports. He loved to watch the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Reds and the Ohio State Sports.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort where military honors will be accorded by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard.
