Shella Ann Scott

July 25, 1947 — February 24, 2026

Huber Heights

Shella (pronounced “Shell-uh”) Ann Scott, 78 of Chillicothe, Ohio, formerly of Huber Heights, Ohio, passed from this life in the early hours of Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Adena Regional Medical Center. She was born Friday, July 25, 1947, in Chillicothe to the late John W. “Jack” Scott and Gertrude M. (Free) Scott. She often referred to her birthdate as Christmas in July.

Ann graduated from Paint Valley High School in 1965. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from The Ohio State University in 1970, and a Master in Education degree from Wright State University.

Miss Scott, affectionately known to her students, retired in 2005 after teaching for 35 years in the Vandalia Butler School system with stents at Stone Quarry and Vandalia Elementary buildings and concluding the last 19 years of her career at Demmitt Elementary School. Her passion as an educator did not end with her retirement as she volunteered for several years with the Project MORE (Mentoring in Ohio for Reading Excellence) program at Broadway Elementary School in the Tipp City School District. In addition, she assisted some close friends with homeschooling their children. She was an advocate for the success of all her students. She also volunteered at Crayons to Classrooms, a Dayton, Ohio based nonprofit that provides free school supplies to teachers of low-income students in the Miami Valley area. Her volunteer hours earned shopping trips for fellow teachers.

On March 7, 1989, Ann was installed into the Kappa Beta sorority which is a chapter of Sigma Phi Gamma International Sorority – a philanthropic organization raising money for charity and doing service work. She was an active member for 37 years and held several offices in both the local Chapter as well as the Province levels. She was known for her “Breast Cancer Awareness” and “Ohio State Buckeye” themed gift baskets she assembled for raffles and silent auctions to benefit the sorority’s fundraisers.

Ann was kindhearted and ready to help. She was always sending greeting cards to friends and family and would always sign off as “Air Hugs”.

Family was very important to Ann. She organized several family reunions held at Pike Lake State Park. She enjoyed attending sporting events as well as school programs and activities in which her nieces and nephews were involved.

She was an avid Ohio State Buckeye football fan. While she watched the game on the television, she would mute the sound as she preferred the radio announcers calling the game.

In addition to her parents, Ann was predeceased by a sister, Amy Scott; and cousins, David Grabill, Nancy Sherman, Sallie Free, and Penny Free.

She is survived by brothers, John W. “Herk” (Christine) Scott III, James “Nick” (Susan) Scott, Carey (Brandi) Scott; nieces, Lori Ann Scott, Jennifer Scott, Alexis “Lexi” Scott, Alayna “Laynie” Scott, Kristina Cipriani, Kaitie (Todd) Merrill; nephews, Eric Scott, John W. (Ashley) Scott IV, David (Karla) Dipert, Adam Dipert; great nephews, John W. “Jay” (Christianna) Scott V, Cole Scott, Eli Dipert, Leo Dipert, Trent Dowell, Gavin Merrill, Maddox Merrill; great nieces, Anna Elizabeth “Annie” Scott, Ivy Dipert, Xoa Dowell; great-great niece, Sequoia Scott; great-great nephew, Ross Scott; a host of cousins and extended family; and special friends Jimmy and Tara Holland, Jacob Holland, and Autumn and Ryan Truesdell.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at The Forge Church (5173 U.S. 50, Bainbridge, Ohio) with Pastor Connor L. Thompson officiating.
