Ronald L. “Jake” Carter 81 of South Salem passed peacefully at home, in the early morning hours of Thursday, April 2, 2026, while surrounded by family. He was born Saturday, December 2, 1944, to the late Alice “Betty” and Thomas Dunaway. On Friday, May 30, 1969, he married the former Ruby I. Newlan, who survives.
He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law Ronna and Phil Achor, daughter Marlynn Kottenbrook and boyfriend Terry Brown; grandchildren Kaylee Achor, Kyle (Kayla) Kottenbrook, Logan (Erin) Kottenbrook and Amber Kottenbrook; great granddaughter Iris Kottenbrook; siblings Linda Ferguson, Marie Dunaway, Hazel (Donald) Gheen, Juanita (Mike) Murphy, Thomas (Vonnie) Dunaway, Mary (Jesse) Flannery, Gene Dunaway, Nellie (Brent) Dunaway, Nancy Cantrell, Jim Dunaway and Jeff (Barb) Dunaway; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, along with several special friends and his beloved dog Daisy.
In addition to his parents Ron was preceded in death by a sister Becky Barrett and a brother Frankie Dunaway.
Ronald attended Teays Valley High School and enlisted in the Army where he served from September 20, 1965, to September 19, 1967. He worked at Collins Packing, Davis Sawmill and eventually Johnson Controls, from where he retired.
He enjoyed being outside taking care of his yard, bird watching, riding his motorcycle but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his beloved Daisy. He loved dancing with his wife and the Willow Creek Band, along with having parties at his home known as Boogie on the blacktop.
Ronald accepted Jesus as his Savior in January 2026 and will forever be with the Lord.
Funeral services will be held 1 pm Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at the SMITH-MOORE-EBRIGHT Funeral Home, Bainbridge with Rev. Rich Cottrill officiating. Burial will follow in the Twin Township Cemetery with military honors by the US Army and the Ross Veteran Honor Guard. Friends may call from 11 am until 1 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
