Mary E. Hooks, 75, of Frankfort, died at 3:25 p.m. on Monday, August 6, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on January 25, 1943, in Roxabel, the daughter of the late Frank P. and Mable Claire Mossbarger Wayland. On April 25, 1966 she married Harold George Hooks and he preceded her in death on January 18, 2009.

Surviving are her children, Richard Allen (Rita) Hooks of Frankfort, Debby Ann Bowers of Washington CH, Christopher Todd Hooks of Frankfort, Lori Nicole (Tom) Hice, Mark (Holly) Hooks of Frankfort, Mark Smith of Stoutsville, Milt Ackley of Kansas, 13 grandchildren, Danny Hooks, Molly Hooks Porter, Jason Williams, Stacey Noble, Amanda Weikle, Tiffany Hice, Cole Nickell, Nicholas, Benjamin, Christian, and Isaiah Hooks, David Purdin, Megan Purdin, 19 great grandchildren, Jacob and Augusta Hooks, Katie and Gunner Williams, Haley Williams-Jester, Harley Patterson, Samantha and Sydney Mortimer, Dakota, Carson, and Grace Weikle, Marla Makenlee Colter, Alexandria Via, Easton and Corbin Purdin, Robert Nickell, Lyla Hooks, Layla and Rowan Lewis, Seth Porter, 1 great-great grandchild, Garret Jester, brother Robert Lee (Violet) Wayland of Frankfort, and many special nieces, nephews, and friends which she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Marla Kay Hooks Purdin, brother, Ralph Eugene Wayland, brother and sister-in-law, James Milton (Sandra) Wayland, son-in-law, Everett Bowers.

Mary was a 1961 graduate of Frankfort High School. She previously worked at the Chillicothe Hospital and retired after 25 years as a cook from Adena Local Schools. She was a fifty-year member of Dry Run United Methodist Church and had attended Walnut United Methodist Church for five years. She was a member of the Ross County Frankfort Senior Citizens, Frankfort Area Historical Society and was a Member of the Frankfort American Legion Auxiliary with more than fifty years of service.

Mary was a member of multiple card clubs over the years. She was a volunteer 4-H advisor for 45 years and received the Ruby Clover Award. Mary helped the Frankfort Merry Workers 4-H Club achieve it’s 70th year of existence. She served two terms on the Ross County 4-H advisory committee and was a member of the Ross County Junior Fair Sale Committee for over 25 years. Mary loved her family, grandchildren, flowers, gardening, the Ross County Fair, working puzzles and word searches, horses, and porch sitting conversations.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jeffrey Rose, Barb Short, Kelly Marsh, and Adena Hospice.

Family and friends are asked to gather for a graveside service at 11a.m. on Monday, August 13, 2018, in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Rev. Michael Wright will officiate. In keeping with Mary’s wishes no public visitation will be held. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Ross County Junior Fair Sale Committee, PO Box 6148, Chillicothe, OH 45601.  The EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort is serving the family.
