Judson C. "Jud" Thompson, 78, of Greenfield, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Adena Regional Medical Center, Chillicothe. He had been in failing health for several months, and in the end, Jesus came, took his hand, and said, "Jud, let's go home". He was born in Columbus, Ohio on Tuesday, January 27, 1948, the son of the late Lewis Clark and Norma Jean West Thompson.
He is survived by his wife, Krista Sue Weinrich Thompson who he married on November 21, 1987. Also surviving are two daughters; Lisa Arlene (Doug Hyer) Thompson of Bloomingburg, Suzanne Christell (Ben) Boedeker of Washington C.H., one son; Bill (Kendra Curry) Barnes of Frankfort, three grandsons; Dillon Wyatt Hyer, Austin Douglas Boedeker and Blake Judson Boedeker, one granddaughter; Lily Louise Barnes and one future granddaughter, Hillary Lauren McCoy, his two brothers; Greg (Cathy) Thompson and Jeffrey Thompson of Washington C.H., one sister; Julie (Alfred) Howe of Washington C.H.. Jud is also survived by one niece, Melissa (Bill) Feasel, two nephews, Andrew (Erin) Thompson and Scott (Kristen Kachurak) Thompson. Jud is preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Connie Kaye (Swigert) Thompson and his father-in-law and mother-in-law; Dr. Jack and Ruth Weinrich.
Jud graduated from Miami Trace High School in 1966. He worked a variety of places prior to working for United Parcel Service out of Wilmington and Columbus, Ohio. He retired in 2005 following 25 years of service to UPS. He and his wife then started Paint, Paper and More, a painting and wallpaper business that they discontinued during the pandemic.
He was a 53-year member and Past Master of Bloomingburg Lodge #449, Free and Accepted Masons. In his younger years, he loved working on cars and owning them and had several during his lifetime. He was a woodworker and made several beautiful pieces for family and friends. He and his wife loved camping and had a permanent spot for several years at the Lively Lady Campground in Aberdeen, Ohio. But his greatest love was his family. They all brought him the greatest joy. He will be greatly missed by many, but especially by his family.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 4, 2026, in the Anderson-Ebright Funeral Home, Greenfield with Steve Wise officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Greenfield Cemetery. Jud's family will visit with friends on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral Home. A Masonic service will be held Sunday at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate in Jud's name to Adena Hospice, 2077 Western Ave., Chillicothe, Oh 45601, or a charity of your choice.
