Janet Beckett Thomas, 79, of Frankfort, passed from this life into Heaven on Friday, October 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on Tuesday, April 1, 1947, in Beckley, WV, a daughter of the late Raymond and Margie Smith Beckett. Janet married James J. Thomas on April 27, 1968, and she loved her soulmate Jim, for 58 years. They shared a love rarely seen and were truly best friends
She is survived by her husband, Jim, their three children; Todd (Amy) Thomas, Paul (Missy) Thomas and Allison (Chris) Butler all of Frankfort. Janet and Jim were blessed with eight grandchildren; Lauren Thomas, Ben (Casie) Thomas, Maddie (Zach) Massie, Isaac (Kiana) Thomas, Jonathan (Karli) Thomas, Abigail (Cole) French, Luke (Jessica) Butler and Lily Thomas, seven great-grandchildren; Karsyn, Kolton, Dawson, Brooks, Loralei, JoJo and Scarlett. Janet is also survived by one sister; Barbara (Steve) Gerlach of Canvas, WV, one brother; Dean (Sarita) Beckett of Crab Orchard, WV and her close double cousins; Hartsel, Tom, and Rita. Janet was preceded in death by one son; Chad Thomas and her mother-in-law; Mary Thomas (Mimi).
Priority was always showing up for her family, no matter the sacrifice. She worked 12 hour night shifts for many years when her children were young but never missed a thing. That priority continued for her grandbabies - even when mobility issues the last decade made it difficult. As she enjoyed seeing her family participate in all their functions, Janet's infectious laugh could be heard as she shared in lives.
Janet was a 1965 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, WV. She attended St. Mary's School of Nursing in Huntington, WV where she received her Registered Nurse Degree. She worked as a Registered Nurse at the Chillicothe Veterans Hospital and then worked at Adena Regional Medical Center in the OB/Nursery room. Janet cared for many new mothers and their babies over the years including being the first to bathe her newborn grandchildren.
She was a faithful prayer warrior and attended the Frankfort Presbyterian Church. When she was at church, Janet was usually playing the piano for the congregation as they sang praises to the Lord. Janet loved music, and from a young age, loved using her gift God blessed her with and used it to glorify Him.
The family acknowledges the Adena Hospice team, Morgan, Jenny, Amy, Chris and Tina, who loved her and all her family so well and made her final weeks comfortable and her transition to Heaven peaceful.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. in the Frankfort Presbyterian Church with her son, Todd, officiating the service. Following the funeral service, Janet will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Ebright Funeral Home, Frankfort. Memorial contributions are suggested to Elizabeth Hope or St. Jude's Hospital. Those who would like to share a memory of Janet and sign her online register may do so at www.ebrightfuneralhome.com.
We grieve her loss and her beautiful bright light, but we are comforted in knowing we will see her again. When we get sad, we can remember this prayer journal entry she left us to find and we share with all of you, "The storms of life prove the strength of our anchor."
