James E. Ackley, 88, of Frankfort, died early Monday morning, June 22 2026, at his home. He was born Saturday, April 9, 1938, in Frankfort, a son of the late Virgil and Hazel Greenlee Ackley. On May 30, 1955, he married the former Betty J. Spriggs. Jim and Betty shared 65 years together until she preceded him in death on January 24, 2020.
Jim is survived five children; Cathy(Dan) Blazer, Jimmy Ackley (Ronda), Molly (Vernon) Jenkins, Virgil (Julie) Ackley and Danny (Tami) Ackley, all of Frankfort, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, one daughter-in-law, Dee Ackley of Wellston, two sisters; Peg (Al) Fulk of Springfield and Linda (Frank) Robb of Urbana, one brother; Terry Ackley of Frankfort, three brothers-in-law; Ed Spriggs, Art Spriggs and Rick Spriggs. Jim was preceded in death by one son; Tim Ackley and fourteen brothers and sister.
Jim worked as a truck driver at the Sugar Creek Stone Quarry for several years, After the quarry closed, he worked for Armbrust Precast of Washington C.H. He was a member of Aerie # 423 Fraternal Order of Eagles of Washington C.H. He was an avid coonhunter as well as rabbit hunter. Jim loved his time picking berries too. As a matter of fact, his family took him out berry picking last week and that experience showed them some roads that they never knew existed, but Jim knew where the berry patches were.
A special Thank You is extended by his family to the Adena Hospice team who helped care for him at home.
Family and friends will have a time of visitation on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 10 am to 1 pm at the Ebright Funeral Home, Frankfort. Beginning at 1 pm, a funeral service will be held officiated by John Shoemaker. Following the funeral service, Jim will be laid to rest beside his wife, Betty, in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort.
