Herbert E. Moody, 98, of South Salem, died at his home on Saturday morning, July 2, 2022. He was born on Friday, September 28, 1923 in Ross County, the son of the late Earl E. and Ruth Blazer Moody. Herbert married the former Opal M. Puckett on July 13, 1942. Herb and Opal would have celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary in eleven days.
He is survived by their two daughters: Judy Randall and Carol Rasey, both of Xenia, six grandchildren: Robert Moody, Brian Rasey, Debbie Pruett, Christine Little, Patrick Rasey and Carrie Fudge, eleven great–grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, one daughter-in-law, Katsuko Moody, and one sister: June Swift of Frankfort. Herb was preceded in death by one son; Donald Eugene Moody, two sons-in-law: Ronald Randall and David Rasey, three sisters and three brothers.
Herbert was a veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Islands in the United States Army Air Corps. Following the war, he returned home to his family and was a logger and sawmill operator. He and Opal then worked at the Kroehler Furniture Manufacturing Company in Xenia. The factory was destroyed in the Xenia Tornado in 1974 and he and Opal began looking for a farm to buy and bought the farm near South Salem. He was a member of the Joseph Ellsworth White Post 483 – American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Greenfield.
