Helen Butler Cory

Helen Butler Cory, 90, of Frankfort, died Wednesday November 9, 2011 at 4:35p.m. at Valley View Care Center following an extended illness. She was born on June 14, 1921, in Ross County, the younger of two daughters born to the late Amos and Maude Seitz Butler. She married Jesse D. Cory on August 11, 1951, who preceded her in death on December 20, 2001.

She is survived by daughter Janice (John) Leach of Mt. Sterling, OH; son Joe (Terri) Cory and daughter Sue (Lawrence) Lanier all of Frankfort; six grandchildren, Renae (Bob) Zabloudil, Cory (Alyssa) Bexfield, Stephen Cory, Grant Cory, Scott (Rogena) Hiles and Daniel (Cortney) Williams; brothers-in-law Nathan L. Cory, Wilmington and Robert C. (Carolyn) Cory, Chillicothe; as well as a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and good friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law Ed Bexfield, and sister Ruth Kruger.

Helen was a 1939 graduate of Frankfort High School. Following high school she attended Otterbein College for two years majoring in music. She returned to Frankfort where she worked as a Secretary at the school, then became a farm wife, mother and homemaker. She was a lifelong member of the Frankfort United Methodist Church, where she served as an organist for over 30 years, and was a founding member of the Mary Martha Sunday School Class in 1950. In the 1960's she was active in teaching an after-school Good News Club for Frankfort and Austin area children, some of whom might not otherwise be exposed to Jesus. She also served as organist for many years at the Frankfort funeral home.

Funeral service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, November 12, 2011 in the EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort with Pastor Neil Foster and Bob Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11am until the time of service. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Music Fund of the Frankfort United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 266, Frankfort, OH 45628.
