Georgia E. Howland, 97, of Frankfort formerly of Hillsboro, died at her home on Thursday, Dec.16, 2010. She was born on Feb. 23, 1913, in Hillsboro, the daughter of the late Clarence and Addie Gall Patton. She married Clarence "Dusty" Howland on June 11, 1954 and they were married for fifty years. He preceded her in death on March 17, 2005.



She is survived by her nephews; Leslie (Marsha) Moore, Clyde (Vicki) Moore, Doug (Barbara) Moore and David Patton, nieces; Charlene (Joe) Stapleton, Janis (Bill) Hosler and Diana "D" (Gary) Cochenour, numerous great nieces and great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews and special friend and caregiver; Dottie Anderson. She was preceded in death by two brothers; Charles G. and William Patton, two sisters; Virginia Moore and Elizabeth Patton.



She was a 1931 graduate of Hillsboro High School. In 1936 she graduated from Otterbein University with a BS in Secondary Education. In 1937 she graduated from Wilmington College with a BS in Elementary Education. She was a member of the Retired State Teachers Association and the Otterbein Alumni Association.



Georgia's long life rendered her many wonderful experiences. During World War II she served in the US Coast Guard in San Francisco. She returned to teaching in Medina and shortly thereafter began teaching at Sugartree Ridge where she spent the bulk of her 37 year teaching career.



After her retirement, Georgia and Dusty enjoyed traveling between Florida and Hillsboro. Upon Dusty's passing, Georgia moved to Frankfort where she made new friends and enjoyed the remainder of her life with family.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010 at 2 p.m. in the EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort with Chaplain Jim Ferrell officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 noon until the time of service. A graveside service and burial will take place on Monday, Dec. 20, 2010 at 2 p.m. in Manchester Cemetery, Manchester, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Adena Hospice, 111 Water Street, Chillicothe OH 45601.
