Charles Q. Clarke

Charles Quinn Clarke of Clarksburg, Ohio passed away from this life on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at his residence in Clarksburg, Ohio, with his family surrounding him. He was born on January 14, 1931 in Ross County, to the late Matthew Quinn Clarke and Helen (Smith) Clarke. On July 17, 1951, he married the former Sue Ellen Prince who preceded him in death on June 4, 2015.

 

He is survived by their daughters Sharon (Lawrence) Wills of Chillicothe, Pam Dawson of Clarksburg, and their son Charles (Mary) Clarke of Chillicothe; grandchildren Tara (Charles) Legar of Athens, Dr. Laura Wills (Kody Myers) of Chillicothe, Scott Dawson of Chillicothe, and Ryan Clarke of Cincinnati; great-grandchildren Kate, Cole and Cory Legar, Arianna Dawson, and Sophia, Kalliope, and Lyndon Myers, and special friends Dr. John and his son Bill Seidensticker. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Terri Lynn; grandson, David Dawson; sister, Evelyn June Pratt; brother, Joseph Clarke; and son-in-law, Harold E. Dawson.

 

He was a graduate of Frankfort High School, Class of 1949 where he received the State Farmer Award in 1950. He farmed for 30 years in the Clarksburg area. He retired from the Kenworth Trucking Company in 1996 after working there for 20 years. He was active in 4-H in Ross County and served as a 4-H Club Advisor, Barn Superintendent at the Fair, and a past member of the Ross County 4-H Advisory Committee. He was a 64-year member of the Heber Masonic Lodge #501 and was the oldest living Past Master. He was also a 35 plus year member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus. He served as a volunteer for Adena Hospice for over 20 years and was a school bus driver for Adena Schools for many years.

 

In keeping with Sue and Charlie’s wishes, cremation will take place. A graveside memorial service for Charles and Sue Clarke will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 6, 2021 in Brown’s Chapel Cemetery, Clarksburg, with Rev. Vera Welker officiating. Those in attendance must wear facial covering and observe social distancing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Adena Hospice, 9 S. Paint Street, Chillicothe OH 45601. The EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort is serving the family. Those wishing to sign and share a memory of Charles may do so on his online register
