Charles H. Briggs, 87, of Roxabel, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Chillicothe. He was born on Sunday, August 14, 1938, in Ross County a son of the late Charles Henry Valentine II and Cecil Adams. Charlie was raised by his adopted parents, Robert and Nathaniel Briggs who preceded him in death. On January 23, 1960, he married the former Mary Alice Logan who preceded him in death on May 20, 2019.
He is survived by three daughters; Kari Briggs Leverone of Frankfort, Janelle Briggs of Cincinnati and Jaime Valentine of Chillicothe, five grandchildren; Jarad Leverone, Ridge Coonrod, Kira Leverone, Quintin Davidson and Triton Davidson, four great-grandchildren; Malik, Janee, Alessandra and Killiam and two sisters; Freida Harewood of Hillsboro and Mary Mason of Chillicothe. Charlie was preceded in death by one sister; Joanne Adams and his brother-in-law; Wendell Harewood.
Charlie was a United Stares Air Force veteran. Shortly after he married Mary Alice, he began working at the Chillicothe Veterans Hospital and worked there until 1967. He then worked at the Circleville DuPont till 1974 at which time he began working at the new Kenworth Truck facility in Chillicothe. Charlie retired form Kenworth in 2001.
He was a member of the Roxabel Second Baptist Church. Charlie was a member of a bowling league at Shawnee Lanes for several years. He loved spending time working on and restoring his cars, "Ole Gold" and "Ole Red". Those who knew Charlie, knew that he was a true fan of the Cleveland Browns and remained true to his team in bad years and the good years. Charlie was a good friend to many people who will miss the conversations that they would always have.
A funeral service will be held a 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in the Ebright Funeral Home, Frankfort with Pastor Robert Bryant and Pastor Obadiah Harris officiating. Following the service, Charlie will be laid to rest beside his wife, Mary Alice, in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Military honors will be accorded at the Cemetery. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. Those who wish to share a memory of Charlie and sign his online register may do so at www.ebrightfuneralhome.com.
